A home is filled with the warmth and love of the family that lives in it. As memories are created, a family learns and grows together. For one young couple, although their home was destroyed by a fire, their love didn’t burn out. According to Bay News 9, some months ago, days before their wedding, newlyweds Sean and Danielle Elders’ home went up in flames.
They escaped, but the house was destroyed to the point of no return. Sean and Danielle then had to worry about paying the deductible. However, as news spread about the tragedy the couple faced, neighbors and strangers started sending donations. "It was wonderful," Sean Elders said. "We were really surprised about how everybody just kind of pulled in and really made it something spectacular." With all of the donations collected, the restoration process is now underway. They hope to be able to move back home in a few months.
On the boarded garage door, the family painted a mural of a rainbow and beneath it, reads the date they were married. Under that, the words, "new beginnings." This symbol of hope has helped the family through this tragedy. In addition, the couple relied on Danielle's mother, Debra Wright, for support and advice.
Wright created a website to help teach other families what they've learned. Wright hopes to launch it soon and the family will also be blogging about their experiences. An example of the advice given on the site is that everyone should take inventory of their home before a tragedy. "Sean, Danielle, and I after the fire came in and it was like 40 hours we inventoried," Wright explained. She said that process would have been easier had they done it beforehand.
The family also recommends having copies of insurance information outside of your home and knowing exactly what your insurance will cover. Through all of this, the Elders’ say the most important thing they've learned is: Hope can get a family through any hardship.
A tragedy like the Elders’ experienced is never easy to overcome. From being close to the happiest day in their lives to having everything destroyed in front of them is a large hardship to come out of.
